How do I add fo;ders within folders? Options

Hi all,
I am flummoxed,,
To make my files more manageable, and to ease my ftp process, I want to add seperate folders and image folders within each other.
I want each topic to have a seperate folder with an image folder within it to hold the pics.
Hard to explain but this is what I write <img scr="folder1/folder2/pic1.jpg">
Now, I place the required web page inside folder 1 and the image inside folder 2 (different names of course that I use).
However, I cannot get the image to show on the page.
When I just use the main (default) folder all is ok.
What am I doing wrong please?
