I am looking to disable copy and paste for email confirm only. So the user will have to retype their email address, they cant just paste it.
I have seen ways to disable copy and paste on the entire form, but I dont want to do it that way. I want to allow then to copy and paste their address if they wanted, like if they are copying their address from a text file. Is it possible to disable copy and paste in JavaScript for just some text boxes on a form, but not all? thanks This post has been edited by Terminator: Apr 10 2016, 11:11 PM |

It's one thing to require a confirmation field, but do you have to disable copy & paste as well? Note that users can make manual typos twice, too. Here are a few discussions (mostly negative): http://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/2106...tory-form-field http://thenextweb.com/dd/2011/09/01/10-way...-*beep*-me-off/ (seems the forum censored this URL, replace the *beep* with "p i s s", but without the spaces. ) http://www.90percentofeverything.com/2010/...ng-antipattern/ http://www.wired.com/2015/07/websites-plea...-managers-2015/ (about passwords, not email fields) Someone suggested simply styling the email form field in an easy to read format, as a way to prevent typos. |

I noticed a few sites do it that way, including blocking the copying and pasting of email. I assumed it was becoming the norm, but I am going to have a confirmation page to confirm all info is correct anyway, so I can probably just let them confirm email is correct on the confirmation screen.

Disabling paste also prevents people that are aware they are sloppy typists from copying their email address from, say, their email program and paste in into the form. I've been known to do that sometimes with long addresses I don't use that often. I suspect it also prevents them from using a "form-filler" program, you know those programs that let you click a button or drag what should be entered to to form field, but I'm not sure about that.
