HTMLHelp Forums _ Site Review Requests _ Current Font styles

Hello all,
I have a site that I use for testing various things : http://arbitrarytimes.com

Now, this template is a few years old and could do with updating (CSS wise).

So I wondering what you thought of the general font size and style?

Here is a page with more text: http://arbitrarytimes.com/eastern-tales/29-the-mustard-seed

Thanks! smile.gif

The font size is fine for me. But I see some issues.

On the front page, IF one has the need to enlarge the text it doesn't fit in its box anymore and overflows so the it becomes hard to read.

On the mustard seed page the large line height make the text tiresome to read for me. It isn't line-height though. You've faked it by putting each sentence in a P.

For instance this looks like it should be one paragraph with a bottom-margin, not a bunch of Ps.

CODE
<p>The friend said: "You did&nbsp; not make good use of your wealth.</p>
<p>When all you did was hide it,&nbsp; it was no better than ashes.</p>
<p>Now listen my friend....</p>
<p>Spread mats in the bazaar; pile up these ashes, and pretend to trade with them."</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

I think I was trying to make it more readable and ended up failing dismally...

Indeed... and a long time ago. wink.gif

Getting back to your point about enlarging text.
Can you please tell me 'how' you are enlarging it?

It's just that when I do it using the CTRL+ keys, it scales very nicely.

Thanks again. smile.gif

At least gecko based browsers (FireFox and so on) are still capable of enlarging only the text and leave images alone. The way all browsers used to behave. In FF you can tick "Text only" under Zoom on the View menu. Don't know if Chrome can do it. I doubt.

Most people will probably use factory settings and zoom. Then there are guys like me that don't like zoom. Seldom do I need the images to be larger unless I want to peek at some detail and then I prefer to enlarge only that image. I just want to size the text up and down if it's too small or big for my liking and I hate when things move around when page zoom is used. So there! cool.gif

Also, a person with poor sight may configure a minimum font size that makes the text too large for your fixed size boxes from the start. A good rule is to never limit the height of a box that contains text.

Ouch. I think I prefered it when you used to see a warning at the bottom of the page....

"This site is best viewed using Internet Explorer v5.5 or Netscape v4.0
with a minimum screen resolution of 800x600."

Things were so much more simple then....
(Insert green on black text and dancing Jesus here.)

What a cool idea to have a site to experiment with. I'm completely new to web design so curious as to how much time you spent to create this look? I like the simple design. It's easy to find your way around, and the parable of the old man and the cart made me chuckle! Also, props on the name: Arbitrary Times! And the old school newspaper font... nice choice!
