Anchor to content in another div on the same page Options

Hello again,

The webpage has 2 vertical divs.
Left div, 75% width and up-down scroll, contains a large table with hundreds of rows, each with an anchor name).
Right div is static and contains category links for left div content.

What I try to obtain: if I click a link, I want to jump to the anchor, but in the left div only, leaving whatever is on page unchanged.
What I get: the link correctly jumps to anchored content but left div is drawn to the entire page (doesn't remain at the width and height and position needed)

How to do this?
