SEO and duplicate text ? Options

I read this today:

When designing a website layout for a client it is tempting to include information such as copyright text, contact details and maybe even company mottos on every page of the site. If there is not enough unique content on every page then you run the risk of your client’s site being penalised for duplicate content. That’s why it’s important to remove such repetitive wording from the website layout so that the true informational content of the site is not diluted in any way.

I have duplicate text on every page on my site. Do you think this will be a problem?

I suppose you are talking about the left side bar repeated on every page. Though the side bar is repeated, the content itself of each page is unique. I don't think that's a problem.

oh wow! I didn't think of that! That is reassuring. I will move on and work on other areas that have duplicate text. Thank you.

I think you take that too literally or to far. Having some repeated text like menus, contact info, a company motto and so on is not a problem as long as you have different content on each page. It's when the bulk of the text is duplicated it could become a problem.

If there is not enough unique content

Your site shouldn't have any SEO problems. Don't overdo it.
