I'm looking for some help getting an html table I created to be at the top of a page. It looks alright to me, but then when I post it to my blog it has like 50 blank lines and puts it at the bottom of the page. I want it right at the top.

I'm not the best at html, especially tables... I just try and copy excisting table examples and add my own information. If someone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Heres the code:

<table cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2" border="1">
<tbody></tbody></table><table border="6">
<tbody><tr>
<td><b><center>Player</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>G</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>PA</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>AB</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>R</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>H</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>HR</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>RBI</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>BB</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>SO</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>SB</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>BA</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>OBP</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>SLG</center></b></td>
<td><b><center>OPS</center></b></td><b>
</b></tr>
<tr>
<td align="middle">Corey Hart</td>
<td>60</td>
<td>221</td>
<td>194</td>
<td>34</td>
<td>61</td>
<td>10</td>
<td>31</td>
<td>21</td>
<td>35</td>
<td>15</td>
<td>.314</td>
<td>.391</td>
<td>.531</td>
<td>.922</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="middle">Carlos Lee</td>
<td>76</td>
<td>331</td>
<td>292</td>
<td>41</td>
<td>85</td>
<td>13</td>
<td>60</td>
<td>24</td>
<td>30</td>
<td>4</td>
<td>.291</td>
<td>.341</td>
<td>.503</td>
<td>.844</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="middle">Corey Hart Projected</td>
<td></td>
<td></td>
<td>294</td>
<td>51</td>
<td>91</td>
<td>15</td>
<td>46</td>
<td>31</td>
<td>52</td>
<td>22</td>
<td></td>
<td></td>
<td></td>
<td></td>
</tr>
<tr>
</tr></tbody></table>

I'm assuming the blog is not part of your very own website... and am wondering if you actually have 'permission' to make such updates...

Anyhow, there wasn't a great deal wrong with your table
------------------
it had two tables - and the first one had no rows or cells...
<table cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2" border="1">
<tbody></tbody></table>

------------------
some spurious <b> tags:
<td><b><center>OPS</center></b></td><b>

------------------
<td><b><center>
changed to
<td align="center"><b>
------------------
<td align="middle">_players_name_</td>
changed to
<td align="center">_players_name_</td>
------------------
<td></td>
changed (for purely cosmetic reasons) to
<td> &nbsp; </td>

Thanks for replying... The blog is mine using blogger. Here is the url: http://kpanz.blogspot.com. I changed the few cosmetic errors as you suggested... but it still went to the bottom of the page. I will leave it on there as added text instead of a new post (the whole thing will be near the bottom of the blog)... you should be able to see it and why the table itself shouldn't skip down so far. Thanks for the help.

It's because, for some bizarre reason, there are 71 <br/> tags in all the WRONG places i.e. not within cells, e.g. between </td> and </tr> tags

Luckily, you don't have any other <br/> tags on your page, so a simple find and replace ought to fix that problem

Sorry I'm not quite sure I understand. How do I "find and replace" these <br/> tags? sooo confused...

Most editors will have a File | Edit | Tools | Help type menu and usually, under Edit there is a Find and Replace option

You type <br/> into the Find field
and NOTHING AT ALL in the Replace field
click on replace all
Save your file
and presto! your done smile.gif

If this doesn't make sense, give the name of the 'editor' you use to write and edit your code

Alright I understand what you mean by doing the "find and replace" but I just use google's blogger to write my information. There is no File, Edit, or Tools menus that I can see. Should I download an html editor that has this ability?

Also why can't I see the <br/> tags within the code of html?

You can't see them because you're not actually editing the source code - and, on Blogspot, I don't think you can

Blogspot has a bug when it comes to inserting tables:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answ...&topic=8915
When I put a table in my posts, there are extra blank lines.
How do I get rid of these?

On Blogspot there is a 'feature' (some would say a bug) where 'convert line breaks' is set to yes by default, so your <br/> tags are inserted wherever your posts have a hard return... like when writing a table with (proper) indentation

To turn it OFF, go to Settings | Formatting | Convert line breaks | No

Even though there's a workaround on Blogspot, I'd still say YES - although there's a high chance that there is already one on the machine your using right now... e.g every Windoze PC has notepad.exe - and it is definitely adequate... if you know html and css etc

Plus it won't spontaneously/infuriatingly add spurious lines of code like some (all?) WYSIWIG editors do. But, it it really is a 'pure' text editor with almost no features ... and as such it doesn't do ANY syntax checking

I recommend SciTE - it's like notepad in that it won't introduce any weird/unwanted code, but, it's in colour and knows several languages - incl html and css - so, if (when) you miss a closing tag, you'll notice cos the colours will be 'wrong'

Thanks a lot Lavazza... I finally got it fixed. I turned off the defaulted thing that converts the line breaks. That didn't seem to do it so I went into the editor and manually deleted all the line breaks on there. So that worked... I appreciate all the help!
