I've done my homework and gone through many of the tutorial websites.

I'm trying to help out a friend with a small business and create a website for him. I'm doing this just for the learning experience.

Everything I've seen that I like is very, very plain.

I'm trying for a "logo" on top, then a brief section with some "intro/sales" text, then I want an area with one box divided into three sections, with each section being a link to another page.

I've tried UL and can get about what I want functionally, but I want my three sections approximately even in size and space.

I don't have a clue where to go.

If you give me a hit or two, I'll research and go from there. I AM sort of stupid and out of my league, but I'm also determined.

I can't do flash or anything fancy. I have a very rudimentary understanding of CSS, although this "project" has helped my grow by leaps and bounds.
I don't want to use a template because I want to be able to say I did it myself, even if it's simple and sorta crappy.

What I want to do is NOTHING this fancy, but it'll give you an idea how I'd like to make three side-by-side "buttons". http://tapbots.com/

ANY and all help is appreciated. Please don't be mean - I'm not overstating my non-abilities!

Thanks, Will

There's an example based on CSS here:
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/practicalcss/

Is that the kind of thing you're looking for?

EXACTLY!

Thank you so very much. I have a feeling this site will be as interesting as informative. Many of the instructional sites that I've found are just selling something - no surprise.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll be back with more dumb questions...
