Refine search box?, I need a search box to narrow down options. Options

I am desperately in need of help. Can anyone please explain how I can get the refine search box on my website? Please see example below:

I am after the box on the left 'refine by' which narrows down the options inside each category. I understand this requires programming but how difficult is it to achieve?

I currently use bigcommerce for my website.

Any help would be appreciated!

I think that would depend on the script in use and how well versed you are in the language it's written in.
