Hi there

I've set up a tumblr using the Syndex tumblr theme.

This is it so far: https://plus44plus44plus44plus44.tumblr.com/

I want to do the following:

– Remove all text, including jargon at top and the 'Archive', 'Subscribe' etc.
All that should be left is the title and the imagery

– Remove padding between images, so they butt up together

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
George

Hi George,

First of all, I am not an css/html expert. I am, however, a tumblr user who experiments with css/html and has done multiple changes in the coding of on my own blogs to get them to look the way I want.

Without the original css/html coding you're using I cannot check everything for the theme you're using. Also, I can't tell from your e-mail how much you know about editing a theme.

All themes come with options to alter things, either the easy way (switching off buttons) or you need to make alterations in the code. Usually a manual/hand book for a theme is provided within the post where you can download the theme or in a FAQ on the theme creator's website.

If you go to 'edit appearance' and then 'edit theme' just scroll down the sidebar on the left where you see the options that come with your theme. The fasted way is to check if you can switch off some of the options that appear on your blog. Some you can disable.

The ask button 'contact' can be dissabled by just turning it off in the 'edit appearance' field of tumblr (even before you go to 'edit theme')
But keep in mind that people cannot ask you questions if you disable this.

Second is changing the coding if need be.

A little advice, before you make alterations, always back up the original code you're using and make a back-up after an alteration. If need be you can always copy/paste the original back or the previous one you were using that didn't had issues.

I searched in your code for the subscribe and archive:

</style><script type="text/javascript" src="http://codysherman.com/tools/infinite-scrolling/code"></script><body><div id="header"><a href="/"><b>{Title}</b></a> <span style="margin-right:10px;">/</span> <a href="/archive">Archive</a> <a href="{RSS}">Subscribe</a> <a href="/ask">Contact</a> {block:Pages}<a href="{URL}">{Label}</a>{/block:Pages}
</div><div class="center"><div class = "autopagerize_page_element" >
{block:Posts}

This is the script for those links on the top left. By removing the links you don't want, the links will dissapear. But this won't be neccessary, actually. Archive, RSS (subscribe), ask (contact) can be switched off. These are tumblr options you can choose to have activated or not.

{block:Pages}{Label}{/block:Pages} on the top left, looks off. I see it in the script, but it looks like the coding is altered or incomplete, because it is not supposed to be visible on your blog like that.

I noticed this theme has a site where you can find help and faq's

Syndex.me/help

These kind of sites often have a faq guide for those that want to change something. If you haven't checked it yet, I would advice you to check it out.

As for the images: why do you want to remove the white space? To your blog visitors this layout is more friendly. By removing all the white spaces posts appear cluttered and this is unpleasant to the eyes.

As an alternative I would chose to make the white space between posts smaller. But that is just me.

I found a solution for removing the space between tumblr posts that is easier than changing the code of the theme. This is something you add to 'custom css' and is also easy to remove if you want to change your blog back to the original setting smile.gif

With the jargon on the top, it kind of looks like you already made alterations in the coding that resulted in this. This coding should normally not be visible on your blog. In that case, you should upload the original coding again to undo what you did.

If this is the original coding, then something is already off. Then I would advice you to contact the theme creator. I don't know how old this coding is, but things like this can already have been noticed and the creator could already have posted an update on how to fix this.

I hope this information is somewhat helpful to you ^^
