I'm trying to figure out if there's a way using HTML or CSS that I can designate which images on my site download first, second, third, etc. for the user who accesses my site. Basically I want the background image to load before other gif's that overlay on top of the bg image.
thanks! |

AFAIK you can't. What you can do is use a matching background color and smaller background image.

Sorry, no. The browser requests your images in whatever order it wants (assuming that it requests them at all), and the server and the connection between the browser and the server determine the order in which the images arrive at the browser (assuming that they arrive at the browser at all).
For background images, make sure you specify a background color that provides sufficient contrast, so your text is still legible when the background image hasn't downloaded yet, or when it isn't downloaded at all. |
