Hi and welcome to the real world! tongue.gif

If you know all those languages (which I only dream about knowing) you probably have all you need already - a good text editor that you are comfortable with.

Correction. Stupid me - you also need a bunch of browsers. Testing in various browsers is essencial. You can get the latest realeases of Opera and Mozilla/FireFox from their respective sites. Older versions can be downloaded from the same sites and also from http://browsers.evolt.org/ that also have stand-alone versions of IE Win.

There are screen cap and VPN services you can use to test in browsers on other OSes than you run yourself. But you probably will have enough fun with the ones you can install on your own machine to start with.

Also, for learning purposes you should know that FF, Opera and Safari are the more standard compatible browsers. If you see one thing in IE and another in FF, FF is with all likelihood correct. Design for the good browsers and hack it for IE, not the other way around.

Go to http://www.bravenet.com they provide free webspace I can't remember how much though.
All they ask is that you have a medium size banner on top and a few mini links at the foot of the page. They also allow you to create your pages inline with a visual editor which is handy or in code view use the visual editor at first but try to learn some code as it will help in the future. Go to http://www.hypergurl.com/whatishtml.html for a quick HTML tutorial that is how I started.

As the FAQ entry What is everyone using to write HTML? says, "Keep in mind that typically the less HTML the tool requires you to know, the worse the output of the HTML."

Even if you don't generate all your HTML by hand, it is important to understand how it works.

See also the FAQ entry Where can I learn about HTML?
