I found this jquery code to make a sidebar that remains absolute until you start to scroll past it, at which point it becomes fixed. Here is a demo page from the website I got it from http://www.pixelbind.com/examples/stick-a-div/2/ . Anyway when I tried to use it myself instead of scrolling the sidebar just disappears as you pass it. I put my html and css below. If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
