Hi there.

I have a problem with HTML help workshop. I am new to chm and I would be very grateful if you could help me with advise. I tried to google my problem but all solutions didn't work.

I am trying to create chm book out of html files (around 700 different html files). Html files are on my computer and basically I am creating a good table of contents for these files. Everything was fine until one moment. The compiler started to crash. It writes that there is an internal error and error was written in the file. i checked the file and it is almost empty, there is nothing helpful at all. The programm works fine only with the project, the index and without toc, though. Note, the toc and index contain absolutely identical files. The index is just alphabetically ordered files from the table of contents. I deleted hhp file and created new project with the old toc and index. It compiled nicely, but as soon as I tried to add one more file it crashed again. Now I have the following situation:

1) Html help can compile nicely the first time, but crashes the second time with absolutely the same project, toc and index.
2) If I add new entry to toc or project files it crashes
3) Sometimes it allows to add 1-2 new entries to toc, but after that starts crashing again. It will not work until I delete new entries and some old ones.

I tried to reinstall help workshop and clean my register, but it didn't help

I really want to use the toc I created since it contains around 200 entries already. I spend a lot of time on it. Is there any way to fix html help workshop? I am ready to start a new toc, but not sure that the same problem will not happen again after 200-300 enties.

May be you can suggest me other ebook formats which are similar to chm (on Windows or Ubuntu OS). I need toc on the left or right panel of the file.

Thanks in advance.

This site is about offering help with HTML. It is not about Microsoft's HTML Help product.
