Quoting Options

I can't figure out the Quoting system. When I hit the REPLY button I get a reply box with the previous post formatted as a quote.
That button shouldn't QUOTE anything. in fact with the QuickReply box at the bottom there really is no need for a REPLY button.

When I click the QUOTE button, it changes from a BLUE button (+QUOTE)
to a RED button (-QUOTE) and doesn't do anything else, it doens't form a reply box.

Also notice that the REPLY button has a Quotation mark as part of the image??



Perhaps this is a javascript thing . . . Safari 2.0.4

Neither can we.
I've assumed that it's suppsed to toggle quoting on/off. Only it doesn't.

Yeah, honestly I don't know if this NORMALLY does something, but since I've modded a bunch of features it's possible I took away something that was performing a function. Or it's possible that it is doing something which I can't remember or explain.

I used to think that it stripped away all but the most recent quote, but that doesn't seem to be happening...

I'll see if I can determine what it is SUPPOSED to be doing and get it fixed.

The dumb button doesn't have a function at their test board either. There only the last post is quoated whatever you do.

I now know what those quote buttons do!

If you click on them and then go to the bottom of the page and choose ADD REPLY it will quote all of the posts that you've selected.

Unbelievable huh? I don't think anyone could figure that out on their own...

So it does! That is something else I would have never figured out if you hadn't told me!

It's a really good feature, except for the fact no one will find it unless it's pointed out to them. Maybe if the graphic was changed . . . I mean the red -QUOTE button would lead one to believe that that is a negative, or non-chosen item, perhaps if it was a checkmark ?QUOTE it would give one a clue as to what it's for.

Yes, I agree. The icon is not at all intuitive. And that is a good suggestion. Perhaps if the normal icon looked blue with the word QUOTE and an unchecked box. And then when you click on it it turns green with the word QUOTE and a checked off box. That might actually make it a LITTLE more clear.

But alas, I don't think people are going to figure out that they can select this across multiple posts and then hit the reply button way at the top or bottom of the screen.

I mean, I've been using and modding this type of board for over 6 months and I never figured it out before now!

Minus and red signal NOT and NO. It would be more intuitive if the buttons were switched (but then it would confuse people used to IBO). It woould also be better if it was labeled "Quote this post" or words to that effect. Maybe at least add that in a title attribute?

The Help text doesn't describe what the button does either.

I've now added HELP descriptions of quoting and replying to posts. Hopefully they make sense.

True. The problem is that the Quote button sits next to the Reply button, so you are lead to believe they are connected. OTOH, where else could you put the Quote button than next to the post in question?

IMHO one should either remove the Quote button and its quote feature, or remove the Reply buttons and only use Addreply for replies.

I don't even see tooltips. What browser are you using and exactly where are you seeing it? Over the HELP link or a different one?

I don't know it it's alt or title that shows me the "+" (and I'm NOT going to look) but there should a title with a more descriptive message. IMHO of course.
