I want to have an image gallery whereby I have thumbnails, and on click, it appears in a bigger size on the same page. something like what I have here, which i did with help from one of those image hosting websites. Don't want the pics on the side to be scrolling either.

can i do it without using Flash?

If it absolutely must be on the same page, then you're stuck using JavaScript (or Flash, or some other client-side mechanism).

If it's okay for the thumbnails to link to another page that looks like the original page, except that it displays the large image corresponding to the thumbnail, then you have more reliable alternatives. There are photo gallery systems that can automate the process. The GBA photo gallery uses such a system.

However, the geocities.com URL that you posted makes me think you can't run server-side programs. In this case, you can still generate static HTML documents. My madrigals ensemble photo gallery uses this approach; although it isn't set up quite the way you described, it could be.

FWIW, I just see a scrolling marquee and a background image.

Weird, the pics appear when i load the page. sad.gif

Thanks for your help. Was hoping to skip Flash or other complicated stuff.

Will think about it and see what works best.

I don't have JavaScript, Flash, etc. enabled by default. I enable them only for sites I trust.

I've never set it up myself, but you can check it out here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658

In case you can't use server-side scripts I've made a javascript thumbnail gallery I hope is relatively harmless, but I haven't tested it much yet: http://hem.fyristorg.com/g-force/test/thumbnails/

Without javascript each thumbnail links directly to the corresponding large image file.
