Hi I'm not sure if I have the right forum, I think I understand how to register a website but do you go through an ISP to host it?

Depends on what ISP means to you. If you mean the guys that provide you with an Internet connection, no, typically you don't use them. You use a web hosting company.

There are so many. Are you looking for a paid or free host? If paid, scout out sites like http://webhostingtalk.com . Try to find good and bad about the hosts you consider.
