Since the ability to edit passes far after many people get their solutions, so people who are looking for answers, or people who want to help, don't have to waste their time, how about a button you can press (only the person who created the thread) that notifies staff when you feel your question has been answered, so they can coem in and mark the thread as "SOLVED: (thread subject name)"?

Doesn't a simple "Thank you, that worked" fill the same function?

This would require that the staff edited the subject line of all such topics. But when is a topic solved - when the topic starter thinks so? What if someone else is able to add important information later on, but feels discouraged by a topic being marked as solved? There might be a gray zone between "help topics" of interest only to the topic starter (that might be marked as solved to save others from begin reading them), and "discussion topics" of more general interest (that should never be considered solved). A topic started in order to help one member might constitute an interesting discussion topic for someone else.
