Hi there! Can you help me out with some free Web hosting services? Or could you please tell me how to make a website? I seem confused by the results in Google. So I decided to ask some other people-like you!
Thanks |

As for free web hosting services, if you are making a personal website that will not be of very much use to the world go for it.. As alot of search engines ignore sites hosted by free services.. If you want tools, functionality to make a cool site...then try Bluehost.com... it's only like 6 bucks a month or something like that or you can pay for like two years of hosting for somewhere around $120..
just my two cents... As for how to build a web site, FrontPage, Dreamweaver,, and hitting forums like this. |

As for how to build a web site, FrontPage, Dreamweaver,, and hitting forums like this. Leave FrontPage out, known for the horrible coding it produces, as any MS product. Dreamweaver seems ok, but has its limits too. Learn to write your own code in some (simple) text-editor (apparently NotePad on PC, definately BBEdit on Mac) and read the FAQs and references of this site too. |

Frontpage is a lot simpler than Dreamweaver. You wouldn't understand any of it, ok, sure it has horrible coding but your just beginning, learn how to use frontpage, check out the code, and then learn JavaScript. Freewebtown.com is a great place to get started, I believe it was 250 megs of space.

Frontpage is a lot simpler than Dreamweaver. You wouldn't understand any of it, Why waste time learning how to use a poor tool when you might instead spend the time learning the actual HTML? QUOTE ok, sure it has horrible coding but your just beginning, If you really don't have time to learn HTML I've read this editor is not too bad: http://www.nvu.com/index.php QUOTE learn how to use frontpage, check out the code, Actually the code FP produces is almost complete confusion (MS Word's "Save as HTML" is even worse), and you'll certainly won't learn anything from studying it. QUOTE and then learn JavaScript. I'd say it's better to begin learning HTML, then simple CSS for styling web pages, and only after that javascript. |

I would suggest learning HTML in something like notepad. Then move to an industry standard tool like dreamweaver only after you know HTML real well.
Also for hosting get a cheap shared plan. Most free ones are good for learning but search engines do not normally index them and you have to live with ads. Pay the $4 a month from godaddy or somthing to get your own site. |

Come on, guys. What's wrong with free hosts? I bet everyone in this thread has used them. I sure have. I think using free hosts is an excellent way to learn without any damage to one's wallet. The problem is when people expect everything from a free host. You won't get scripting support, no or unobtrusive ads and good speed and uptime all in one host. You have to make your choices.
I don't believe that search engines don't index sites on free hosts either. That may have been true at one point. I think engines only indexed a certain number of pages on the same domain, but that's not the case now. To answer the question, I don't think there is a "best" free hosts, as little as there is a best HTML editor. It's a matter of finding what suites you. I agree with Christian's opinion about FP though. What did I do now (if it's me you're talking about)? You stumped us. |

here some free hosts with no banners and ads in your face.
both are great. www.justfree.com (one click forums and blogs etc.) very user friendly "candy" interface, supports both your own domain and subdomain www.110mb.com (they actually offer lot more then that) supports both your own domain or their subdomain This post has been edited by Dbosch: Jun 19 2007, 05:13 PM |
