I recently started working on my personal website. I tried to upload an image using the basic <"img.src = "picture.gif" > tag. I have the file index.gif stored in the same folder as the html file. I tried the same the local drive(C:/ drive) but it gives me an error icon and does not upload the image.
The site name is " http://www.iit.edu/~sethksh/".
I very much hoping someone could help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance!

The image isn't uploaded automatically because you use it in an image tag[*]. You need to upload it the same way you uploaded the HTML file. It can also be a matter of CaSe. You are on a Unix type server and it's case sensitive unlike Windows.

[*]I think some editors that use projects actually do upload referenced files along with the HTML - i.e. they upload the whole project. But with normal FTP or similar you have to do the file selection yourself.

You might want to try changing the file extensions. For instance, a file called "logo.GIF" could be changed to "logo.gif". You should also avoid caps in file names: "Logo.gif" should be changed to "logo.gif".

I don't know if this will help, but this is the basic problem I have had. IE may not display some images for reasons unknown to me, even proffesionally made sites are liable to do this.

You have indicated <img src="picture.gif" width="300" height="90" alt="Kshiti Seth"> in your html file.

So as pandy said you need to have a graphic file called picture.gif uploaded by ftp to the same folder as the html file.

jimlongo & pandy are right. You don't have your image uploaded by FTP onto the same server as your HTML file.<p>
You can get a very powerful FTP program from <a href="http://www.ipswitch.com">www.ipswitch.com</a>. It will connect to your site and you will be able to easily upload pics, etc.<br>The cost of this program for home use is $15, unless you have already gotten it free with your site.

Sorry, I didn't know Fast Reply didn't support HTML. Here's the message with it all intact:

It isn't just Fast Reply. It would be very difficult to discuss HTML if the forum software didn't automatically take care of converting HTML examples into character entities.

Yes, I guess I can see how that would be difficult... :-)
