Wow, that's great news. I'm already downloading. Is the rendering identical to the Mac version's, do you know?

From comparisons I've read it is identical.

That Apple site is pretty funny. It has Opera coming a dead last for speed, etc. But then again, I'm not surprised by that. Opera is by no means everything its rabid fanbase makes it out to be.

Edit: Just saw the system requirements...

"At least 256MB of RAM"

For real? To run a Apple-derived browser? Is it really that bad on a Mac?

Firefox and Internet Explorer rarely go over 70Mb on my machine.

I'm pretty sure those are the computer requirements. I don't think you can run Vista or XP with anything less.

Yes, I just tested on my old computer with 256KB RAM and no problems booting or loading an ordinary web page.

But the forum doesn't look too good, lots of link texts are missing (tried to upload a screen capture but the forum won't let me). huh.gif

The quoted requirements are for the browser - or at least that's how I saw it.

Seems any text styled as bold disappears (including H1, STRONG etc), regardless of font used. Styling it to normal makes it show up.

Not sure if the Mac version of Safari has this, but the Win beta lacks a location bar drop-down box that keeps the last 20-30 sites you've visited.

Even Unix's Konqueror (on which Safari is based) has this feature.

Also, clicking in the location bar of any browser I can think of highlights the entire contents - Safari doesn't do that, which forces you to select and delete the contents.

Minor, maybe, but it's an ergonomic feature that a lot of users take for granted.

One small thing I did note was the middle mouse button opened a URL in a new tab (Firefox, IE 7.0 and Opera 9.x's default behaviour) despite the options stating Ctrl-click does it. A nice touch...

all up - definitely beta and not ready for prime time.

Ultimately the advantage for the users of this forum is they can check the rendering of their pages without asking me for screenshots. biggrin.gif ohmy.gif laugh.gif

After installing it in my laptop (XP SP2), took a quick look at this forum, and some pages I was working on (off-line). I did not notice any diiference between Firefox and Safari as far as the forum goes.

In my pages, that I looked at, the text styled as bold, etc. does render bold. The only difference I saw was the normal text (black) appeared to be somewhat darker. Another observation is that the very light blue back ground, even though rendered exactly the same in other browsers, looked a little bit distorted.

Now..... I was not able to resize the window by using the mouse. How do you do that?

You grab the bottom right corner of the box. You should see a little shaded corner to grab.

I'd been using Swift for a while (as a test browser), but that didn't have any Javascript support, so I guess I'd better get Safari now.

I have a nagging feeling it'll try and install itunes for some reason.

Win-Safari had not impressed many webmasters due to it's massive intake of memory sad.gif and not supported by lower version of Windows.
i haven't used it myself but our forum members have posted their opinion about Win-Safari at
