Look! Talk about link rot.
http://useit.com

It's a resource. Why not just leave it up? Myself, I archive everything and I've never written anything remotely important.

I'm sure this happened long ago, but I discovered it just now. Thank god the pages are still at archive.org.

I haven't read all articles, but one that I often think of is this one.

Seems the articles are redirected to the new domain, e.g. http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9703b.html redirects to http://www.nngroup.com/articles/be-succinc...ng-for-the-web/ (I haven't checked all the old pages).

Speaking of Jakob, he once wrote that "users spend most of their time on other websites." Assuming that today's web users spend most of their time on Facebook, does that mean other sites should mimic Facebook? sad.gif

Also I wonder why www.nngroup.com is using third party stylesheets. Finally, when I tried the search box I got a server error: http://www.nngroup.com/search/?q=jakob

Oh. I have to apologize to Jakob then. blush.gif Still think the old domain should have been left up and working. ninja.gif

What's with those amazonaws URLs? I've seen that before but never understood what it's about. Do you know?

I suppose it's a content delivery network, similar to Google's web font and jQuery servers.

I don't think so. Say I after having done some googling with better result than before. It's this.
http://aws.amazon.com/free/
So it probably isn't third party style sheets. It's Jakob's but he keeps'em in the cloud. One wonders why though.

Wikipedia uses cross domain stylesheets too for some reason. The Firefox RequestPolicy addon lets you notice such peculiarities.

I understand the concept of using the same style sheet for several domains, but why host it elsewhere? You could have your own domain or sub just for common resources if you wanted. To avoid problems if the server with the style sheets goes down? That could be a valid argument for you and me, but hardly for wikipedia. It must be spread over a range of servers and I doubt it can go down.
