I'm feeling in the holiday spirit, so I'll bite

SHARED, very inexpensive, everything is installed for you, can suffer from your neighbors hogging resources and bringing the server to its knees (especially it will seem, when you need it most) - in short you get what you pay for.

DEDICATED, very expensive, nothing is installed for you, won't have pain inflicted by your neighbors since you don't have any. Plan on working full time as a systems admin on your server, especially if you're security concious, and tech support will be less available or costly.

VIRTUAL PRIVATE, VPS can be a fair middle ground. Some come with control panel and security installed, not too expensive (depending upon your definition and expectations), not subject to resource hogging

I think we can definitely say that Dedicated is better than VPS is better than Shared in terms of performance.

Also Managed is better than self-administered in terms of the amount of time and skill needed required.

It's the balance of those factors that we can't judge for others.
