Do you have a hardware firewall? A router?

No, you don't need them for this, but if you have them they may complicate things. A router is a box between your computer and the modem (or hole in the wall, whatever you've got) that lets several computers share the same internet connection. They often have a firewall wall built in.

Hope this is readable. It's the hour when the sun falls on my screen, so I don't see what I write. tongue.gif

You mean if you can serve it, I think. Yes, you can do that even with a router, but then the router needs to be configured too.

Are you running Apache right now?

I can see your IP number, so I tried and there's no response.

Are you sure you haven't limited access to localhost in httpd.conf?

Well, don't you remember what changes you've done? I don't have it here so I can't tell you exactly where it is. It's well commented. Read what the comments say.

The ServerName directive might specify "localhost". I think ServerName can also be set in your Virtual Hosts (if you've added those).

No no, don't do that.

Search through httpd.conf and apache2.conf if you have one and look for something like this.

Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from 127.0.0.1

Search for "deny" and see what you find.

No, "localhost" can be used if you only want it to serve pages offline (if I understood this correctly).

Virtual hosts can be used if you host separate sites on your server. If you haven't added any virtual hosts yourself you can just ignore that part, IIRC.

See also http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#servername (but I don't know much about these things, so maybe I should stay quiet).
