HTMLHelp Forums _ Markup (HTML, XHTML, XML) _ Making an Image the same size as the width of the table underneath

Posted by: Brian Read Aug 7 2012, 06:21 AM

If you look at:

http://www.safety-lifting.co.uk/InspectDB/index.php

You can see that the top image/banner is rendered slightly inside the left hand edge of the table & co underneath.

Using firebug I can see that the table is configured to be 963px wide, and this is the natural width of the image/banner.

Yet the banner is stepped inside - anyone got any ideas?

Note that the original html is heavily php / Database orientated, so there are "lots" of CSS which appears not to be used.

The problem appears when you are logged in as well.

Cheers

The image is in the table. I notice several IDs are reused. Have you checked if that has to do with it? Maybe some rule or other doesn't have effect because of that.

Actually, it doesn't look like a gap as I thought it was. I think the problem is in the image itself. Enlarge it and you can see there's a thin dark line along the left edge. I think that looks as part of the background on the page and we think the image is a bit to the right. Cut a couple of pixels off the left of the image and you'll see.

For the real thing it's maybe better that you remake the image or the text will probably look odd, beginning so close to the left edge.
