I am interested in creating a background image that would accommodate any or most computer screens without a repeat. What is the ideal maximum size for a background image? Currently I am using one that is 2000x800 and it is 176 kb. Is there an ideal image size that would serve more screens statistically?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for your replies.

Strange. I answered Mr McGrew's post. It displayed and has now duly disappeared.

Thank you Corey for the lead. I've been experimenting with pngnq, pngcrush and several other utilities and it is simply amazing how much data can be flushed from a png! Can you tell I'm having fun?? rolleyes.gif

I've managed to take the graphics and whack 2/3 of the file size without appreciable notice.

Are you sure you didn't just preview it and forgot to confirm? Happens to me all the time. blush.gif
