Hi there, after redesigning the website www.charliesliveblog.co.uk I'm now at the stage where i want to get the site noticed on search engines e.t.c to bring more traffic to the site.

there are meta tags on the site and i also did a sitemap for the search engines but what i would like to know what's the best way to get the site well known. Its such a good layout and has the potential to be a good site but a website is no good without visitors and for that, there are plans to add more pages in the next few weeks on a wide variety of stuff.

any tips would be appreciated smile.gif

Content will do it. If you have information people will want to read, then they'll go there. Sounds too simple, doesn't it? But it's true. And the easier that content is for a search engine to find (i.e no frames, dynamic content that is SEO friendly, no important content inside javascript. Flash, etc) the better.

Page content that matches the page's title always helps...

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on meta tags either - most search engines either blithely ignore them or rate them of minor importance when it comes to indexing your site.

Meta tag description is used in Google as the snippet describing your page, so you might want to put in a good description in your meta tag.

I have one site built on a Joomla, and I didnt notice that the default was to use the same meta tag description on all pages, and Google didnt like that at all. I even spent all the time putting up good descriptive tags, but they were overridden by the default. As soon as I deleted the default tag and my custom tags took over traffic went up a lot.
