Hi all
I would like to create a new website however I don't have a clue about all the legal stuff you have to take into account. Basically I want to advertise hundreds of other company/business on my website for free and include information about them; such as their phone number and address. Do I need to personally ask every company/business if they will allow this or because its free advertising for them does it not matter? Any help anyone can give me on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

QUOTE Do I need to personally ask every company/business if they will allow this... Yes, because some companies doesn't allow their name and/or logo on third party websites without permission, while some of them will not allow you to use their name on your website if you're not doing business with them. And there's no need to be involved with legal stuff. |

And there's no need to be involved with legal stuff. Perhaps the law in Croatia is rather strange. In general, of course you do not have to ask someone's permission to say their name (whether it's trademarked or not). |

Yep. IANAL, and yes, you generally need their permission to use their trademarked logo (and copyright logo image), but as Brian said, you can mention their name and link to their site without permission.

In 2006, when I started poandpo.com and contacted, among the others, HSBC bank. And the answer from "high place" is that (apart from mention their name in the news or newspaper), they don't approve use of their logo or link to them to "sites that aren't in business relations" with them. True story.

That's fine, but while I need their approval to use their logo, to act as their representative, to claim a business relationship with them, etc., I don't need their approval to link to them.

Ah ok thats what i wanted to know really, very usefull thanks everybody. I only wany to mention there name and more importantly their address, simply for distance reference or map finder? I guess this wouldn't be a problem either. For example:
Waterworld: Where: - Stoke, ST1 5PU Most address are in yellow pages anyway so are public knowledge yea? |
