Learning HTML (tags) my way.

[b] I took from Philosophy what I could understand and morphed it into what I could communicate to others. I want to do the same with HTML (TAGS). Using one word, one title, picture, slide, video or webpage. I understand HTTP://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/html_tag. But the (tags) excite me more than using the whole www line. Like a hover note webpage message definition and such. I had a idea when e-mailing friends or whomever one could enter a (TAG) instead of a www line except for the www link itself. I feel this is a new and excited way to teach anyone who understand the basics of writing and reading a new way.

I am excited about using a tag over the www line like Philosophy=http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML_tag
I personally feel I will never use all the language but would love to develop my own personal style or shortcut to use a a teaching tool. If I sixty years ago had this language I would be a better writer and communicator today. Thoughts please. pljamesone@att.net

USB hubs

Looking for a reliable brand/model.

I've never in my life had a reliable USB hub. The main problem is that devices connected through the hub seems to disturb each other. If more than one is connected this way they often start to malfunction. Or all of a sudden the computer doesn't recognize one of them. Currently I have problems with all small devices that can be charged through USB. Mp3 player, small speaker, ebook reader... It's been this way with every hub I've ever owned, used with different computers. Some of them have worked fine to start with though, for a very limited time.

Is this a generic problem with hubs or do I just make poor choices? Does it help to pay more?

Javascript localStorage (persistent cookies)

The Javascript/DOM localStorage lets newer browsers store up to 5MB of data (per domain) on the HD. This seems very useful for developers, but few web users seem to know or care about the security/privacy implications. W3C itself points out the following vulnerability:

"7.2 Cross-directory attacks

Different authors sharing one host name, for example users hosting content on geocities.com, all share one local storage object. There is no feature to restrict the access by pathname. Authors on shared hosts are therefore recommended to avoid using these features, as it would be trivial for other authors to read the data and overwrite it."

Furthermore, current browsers have no dedicated controls for viewing or deleting the localStorage data (unlike cookies). Maybe you can get rid of it by deleting all user history/cache data, or by using browser extensions. Personally I feel more and more reluctant to use Javascript at all with inventions like this.

Some code examples and demos: http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/domstorage.shtml (including workarounds for MSIE, which doesn't support localStorage yet).

Here's a bookmarklet/favelet that shows what a site may have saved: http://potch.me/ls/ (e.g., http://twitter.com/ used localStorage when I tested).

http://www.w3.org/TR/webstorage/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_storage

(I put the thread in Off-Topic since I want to discuss the privacy/security issues rather than the actual scripting.)

Craigslist CAPTCHA -- not showing

I am seeing no CAPTCHA image when clicking on the "Reply" botton to a Craigslist ad.
I've never encountered the problem before. It's always worked fine. No nothing, no image, no image refresh button or audio button, it's all blank.

No new hardware or software, no new programs. No security settings have been tweaked*.

I have, however, under the Internet Options box, for the tabs Security and Privacy, added new Restricted Sites, and Blocked sites respectively.

Not while on Craigslist, making me think I might have blocked whatever service they use to provide the CAPTCHA technology, by blocking the site inadventantly via another website (I have Third-party Cookies set to "Prompt", and I blocked spammy ones).

The Craigslist System Status page says CAPTCHA image problems are mostly fixed but will not work for users with Internet Explorer 6 or older.
Hi everyone. I'm a new webmaster hoping to get a little input. I've been studying web design for a while but still consider myself a complete novice. I just started my site http://www.jobsallover.com. It's a site that gives people ideas on ways to supplement their income and make some extra money. The content is pretty weak currently, but I'm not worried about that I have huge improvements coming in that area.

What do you all think of the design? I'm hoping for some helpful input from a few experts, maybe some ideas on what could work better. I am thinking of eventually adding a top navigation bar when I get a little more content.
Check it out at http://www.jobsallover.com

Any input is greatly appreciated!
